JNI Protests Exclusion From First Lady’s N500m Palliative In Plateau State... Says No Single Muslim Included

ZAKARI ISAH – KADUNA

The Plateau State Chapter of Jama’atu Nasril Islam, JNI, has alleged exclusion in the selection of beneficiaries of the N500 million palliative donation by the First Lady, Remi Tinubu.

Mrs Tinubu had on Tuesday, during a sympathy visit to the state, announced the donation of N500 million to 500 families affected by the Plateau crisis across the five local government areas of Mangu, Bokkos, Barkin Ladi, Riyom and Jos South in the state.

But the JNI, in a statement by its Director ICT/NGO Matters, Lawal Ishaq, alleged that the list of the beneficiary families was lopsided. According to the statement, there is no single Muslim beneficiary on the list.

While raising questions on the sincerity of the Plateau State government towards providing a lasting solution to the crisis in the state, the JNI alleged partiality in compiling the list of the beneficiaries.

“Many Islamic leaders, as well as Fulani herdsmen express displeasure and disappointment over an outright exclusion of Muslims and the lopsided nature of the list of 500 families that were victims of the recent round of crisis in five local government areas of Plateau state.

“To many Muslims and Fulani leader’s dismay, when the list of beneficiaries was unveiled by the Plateau state government, there is no single Muslim beneficiary in the list.

“This is unfortunate because it is on record that so many Muslims, including lots of Fulani herdsmen, were displaced by the crisis, especially in Mangu LGA where the crisis took a religious dimension,” the JNI added.

Similarly, Dr. Salim Musa Umar, the Plateau State JNI Secretary, an open letter to His Excellency, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, a copy of which was sent to the Office of the First Lady, Federal Republic of Nigeria, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, under the heading:RE: VISIT OF HER EXCELLENCY THE FIRST LADY TO PLATEAU STATE, noted with sadness that the JNI as a critical stakeholder in the peace processes in the state was not invited.

Also, the letter reads in part: “We also note that the JNI had no input in the list of 500 victims of the crisis even though we have hundreds of Muslims killed, maimed or displaced as a result of those series of crisis”.

Your Excellency,
Barrister Caleb Mutfwang,
The Executive Governor,
Plateau State of Nigeria.
Dear Sir,

RE: VISIT OF HER EXCELLENCY THE FIRST LADY TO PLATEAU STATE.

We learned that the First Lady and wife of. The President Senator Remi Tinubu visited Jos yesterday and was hosted by your humble self.

Her visit was to sympathize with victims of the recent unfortunate crisis in Mangu, Bokkos, Barkin Ladi, Jos South, and Riyom local government areas.

We note with sadness that the JNI as a critical stakeholder in the peace processes in the state was not invited.

We also note that the JNI had no input in the list of 500 victims of the crisis even though we have hundreds of Muslims killed, maimed, or displaced as a result of those series of crises.

This is truly disheartening and gives room for many speculative theories flying around that your government is not carrying everyone along.

We believe there must be a mix-up or miscommunication somewhere, hence our resolve to write to you hoping to receive clarification and possible amends where necessary.

While waiting for your humble response,  accept the assurances of our best wishes.

Yours Sincerely,

Dr. Salim Musa Umar
State Secretary.
