Kaduna State Commissioner of Sports Development, Prof. Benjamin Gugong has congratulated the newly inaugurated board of the Swimming Association.
Represented by a Deputy Director of Sports Development, Hassan Buba, Prof Benjamin assured the board members that the ministry's door is open for further engagement towards the growth and development of sports in the state.
“I must commend all of you for your various contributions towards sport which demonstrated your profound passion for your respective Sports Associations,” he said.
The commissioner explained that this is where Sports Associations need to complement the government by setting up the enabling environment by bringing in private and corporate investors to partner with them and invest in Sports.
Speaking with newsmen after the inauguration, the Patron of the association, Muhammed Garba, (Banagan Lere and Sarkin Kudun Saminaka) who assured to facilitate support for the development of swimming said that the inauguration was timely, to afford the association to adequately prepare ahead of new year.
In a contribution, one of the 9-member stressed the need to prioritize safety at the swimming pool.
We should look towards the direction of safety because most swimming pool's lifeguards or those in charge are not equipped with the needed skills and knowledge to manage the place, that's why we have incidents of people drowning in the pool, so I think we should come up with a training program where we sensitize swimming pool owners to register with the association after the pay a token and train their workers or staff on first aid and safety in the pool.
Also, a member, Umar Saleh reiterated his commitment to support the association and that his door would remain open for any assistance.
