The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Kaduna State Wing, proudly celebrates the exceptional leadership and enduring legacy of the National President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Comrade Audu Titus Amba, whose unwavering dedication to the teaching profession has continued to redefine educational advocacy and improve the lives of teachers across Nigeria.
A visionary leader, seasoned trade unionist, and passionate advocate for quality education, Comrade Amba has remained steadfast in his commitment to protecting the rights, dignity, and welfare of teachers. His administration has been marked by purposeful reforms, courageous advocacy, and impactful policies that continue to strengthen the education sector.
Under his leadership, the union successfully championed the implementation of the Harmonized Retirement Age for Teachers Act, extending teachers' years of service and enhancing job security. He has also relentlessly advocated for the deduction of primary school teachers' salaries through the First Line Charge, the transfer of salary responsibilities from Local Government Councils to State Governments, and increased funding for education in line with global standards.
His tenure has witnessed remarkable institutional reforms within the NUT. The National Secretariat in Abuja has undergone a comprehensive transformation, staff welfare has significantly improved, and merit has become the guiding principle for appointments and promotions. These achievements have strengthened the union and reinforced confidence among its members nationwide.
Comrade Amba's leadership journey is one of commitment, sacrifice, and excellence. Beginning as Branch Secretary of NUT Kaduna South Local Government in 2000, he steadily rose through the ranks to become Branch Chairman, Chairman of the NUT Kaduna State Wing, National Publicity Secretary, and ultimately National President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers. Today, he also serves as Vice President of Education International and Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), reflecting the confidence reposed in him by the labour movement nationally and internationally.
Throughout his tenure, Comrade Amba has consistently spoken for teachers on issues of national importance. He has championed the implementation of a special salary structure, the 40 percent peculiar allowance, prompt payment of salaries, improved security in schools, and better working conditions for teachers. He has repeatedly emphasized that quality education can only be achieved when teachers are adequately motivated, professionally respected, and fairly rewarded.
He has equally called for increased investment in education, improved learning environments, timely payment of minimum wage arrears, and the appointment of qualified education professionals to oversee the education sector. His advocacy continues to inspire meaningful reforms and strengthen public confidence in Nigeria's educational system.
As a leader who believes in service, accountability, and excellence, Comrade Audu Titus Amba has restored hope to teachers and positioned the Nigeria Union of Teachers as a stronger, more responsive, and more influential organization.
