Correctional Officers in Nigeria have been urged to remain patriotic and diligent in the discharge of their responsibilities.
The Honourable Minister of Interior, Hon. (DR.) Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo made the remark at the Passing Out Parade of the 29Th Assistant Superintendent Correction, Basic International Course, (ASC) at the Correctional Service Staff College, Barnawa, Kaduna On Friday 29th September 2023.
The Minister told the graduates the Federal Government is actually counting on them as the government works towards the amelioration of numerous security and socioeconomic challenges facing the country.
"Indeed, the tasks ahead may be tough but they are not insurmountable. Always remember that the job of rebuilding Nigeria is everybody's task".
Represented at the occasion by the Secretary Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, Immigration Board, (CDCFIB) Federal Ministry of Interior, Ja'afaru Ahmed, Dr Tunji-Ojo assured that the ministry and the board would continue to collaborate with the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service and his team to emplace adequate measures for the Nigerian Correctional Service to carry out its statutory responsibilities.
"This Passing Out ceremony is coming at a time when the Federal Republic of Nigeria just witnessed a political transition of power with His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces".
"Going by the track record of His Excellency, there is no doubt that Nigeria is in the right hands. And I want to use this forum to reassure Nigerians that His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR will never disappoint Nigerians".
Furthermore, the Minister congratulated the Commandant and his team for seeing to the successful completion of the ASC Course. "I wish to therefore enjoin the College to continue to fulfill its mandate of training and re-training of Correctional Officers in line with international best practice especially in the light of the security challenges in Nigeria, Africa, and beyond".
"I wish to therefore congratulate very sincerely all the graduating Officers for successfully passing through the rigours of the academic and physical exercises associated with courses of this nature. I want to also congratulate the Officers for the superlative performance during the parade".
"From all that I could see here, this Basic Course has indeed produced the desired impact on the Participants and I do hope that the knowledge acquired during this period will be deployed in the years ahead. Of course, I hope you know that this Basic Course is just the beginning of other numerous courses you will have to undergo in the course of your career".
"I have been reliably informed that this Basic Course was mounted in March 2023 with a total of two hundred and thirteen (213) Cadet Officers including five (5) Officers from The Gambia graduated from the basic course.
