PDP Condemns Financial Mismanagement Under Former Governor El-Rufai, Urges Further Investigation

The Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP), Kaduna State Chapter, has expressed concern over the revelations made by Kaduna State Governor, Sen. Uba Sani, regarding the state of finances and misappropriation of funds under the former Governor of the State, Nasir El-Rufai, during a recent Town Hall meeting held on March 30, 2024.

In a press statement released today, the PDP stated that while they were not surprised by the disclosures, they believe that the revelations are just the tip of the iceberg. They encouraged Governor Uba Sani to pursue transparency efforts fully.

As an opposition party, the PDP affirmed its support for any government initiative aimed at bringing development to Kaduna State. However, they emphasized their commitment to opposing anything short of genuine progress.

The statement recalled previous efforts by the PDP to draw attention to alleged financial improprieties, including the misuse of public funds, the sale of state-owned land, and the controversial mass dismissal of qualified teachers under the El-Rufai administration. The PDP sees the recent revelations as vindication of their earlier concerns.

The PDP called on Governor Uba Sani to establish a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate all allegations thoroughly. This includes examining the state's foreign and local loans, as well as contractual liabilities, and scrutinizing the sale of state-owned land during the previous administration. Those found guilty should be held accountable and made to refund stolen funds.

Additionally, the PDP urged the establishment of a High-Powered Civil Service Reforms Commission of Inquiry to review the mass dismissal of over 27,000 workers from the state civil service without proper payment of their entitlements. The commission should aim to restore justice to all affected parties.
