Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria attended a Christmas service at First Baptist Church, Sabon Gari, Zaria, to strengthen religious harmony and unity among the revealed faiths and other religions.
Prof. Isah-Hassan Enua-Mshelgaru, the leader of the group, said the visit was to celebrate Christmas with their Christian brothers at First Baptist Church, Sabon Gari, Zaria.
He noted that Christmas Day is a day for festivity, friendliness, and unity; the visit was for divine unity among Muslims, Christians, and other religions.
According to him, the visit to the church by the IMN members for the celebration of Christmas was to strengthen the relationship between the two faiths and foster divine unity.
He said Muslims and Christians are the revealed faiths in Nigeria, accounting for more than 90 percent of Nigeria's population, while the remaining faiths make up less than 10 percent.
Speaking on the impact of the visit, Professor Enua-Mshelgaru said that as a group, they started visiting churches more than 25 years ago, and since then, there has been much understanding between the group and Christians.
According to him, the visit has reduced fears and some animosities between the two faiths; Christians are now open to them, and they share sentiments and problems together.
The visits have so far bridged the existing gaps between them due to the persistent meetings, Mshelgaru said.
In his remarks, Rev. Isaac Gbadero commended the IMN members for the visit and urged them to continue such visits to strengthen religious harmony and unity.
He, therefore, prayed for the peace of God to come into Nigeria and salvage the country from myriad socio-economic challenges.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of gifts to the church by the leader of the group, Prof. Isah-Hassan Enua-Mshelgaru.
