Kauru LGA Under Siege: Community Leader Calls for Military Intervention Amid Rising Violence and Displacement

Kauru Local Government Appeals for Urgent Security and Infrastructure

The Chairman of the Kauru Local Government Community Development Associations (CDAs) Forum, Chief Abel Habila Adamu has highlighted the escalating security challenges in Kauru Local Government Area (LGA) and called for immediate intervention to ensure the safety and security of the residents.

Chief Abel Habila Adamu said the recent surge in violence and attacks have led to loss of lives, displacement of people, and destruction of property. He emphasized the alarming nature of the abductions, citing a tragic incident where a woman in Kiffin Chawai was killed by her abductors despite paying the demanded ransom.

The chairman underscored the dire situation in Kumana and Kauru chiefdoms, where thousands have been displaced, and many have lost their lives in areas such as Dokan Karji, Bandi, Rumaya, Kwassam, Kaibi, Kusheka, Geshere, and Binawa. Urging the government for swift action, he proposed the establishment of two military bases in Kauru and Kumana chiefdoms to provide a permanent security presence and deter further attacks.

While thanking the government for the military base in Chawai chiefdom, Chief Abel expressed the need for additional security personnel to address ongoing attacks in the region. He assured the government’s cooperation from law-abiding citizens to work towards restoring lasting peace in the LGA.

Commending the state government under Governor Uba Sani for its rural transformation projects, including the contract reawarding for the Pambegua to Kauru Road construction, Chief Abel advocated for extending the road project to link communities across the three chiefdoms of Kauru, Kumana, and Chawai. He noted that the lack of good access roads has hindered swift security response during emergencies.

Chief Abel also urged the government to provide critical infrastructure such as healthcare facilities, schools, potable water, and electricity to support the area’s development and improve living standards.

The chairman lauded the efforts of the Kauru local government council chairman, Alhaji Bashir Tanko Dawaki, along with representative of Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, Hon. Mukhtar Zakari Chawai, and Hon. Barnabas Haruna Danmaigona, for their dedication to ensuring the security of lives and property.

In his concluding remarks, Chief Abel appealed to the government to take their demands seriously, emphasizing that addressing the insecurity and infrastructure challenges is crucial for the safety and well-being of the people of Kauru LGA.
