The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Zaria office seeks journalists' support and cooperation to enlighten the public about the dangers of drug abuse in the community.
Muhammad Shi'aibu, Assistant Commander agency, who is also in charge of the Drugs Demand Reduction Unit, Kaduna State Command, Zaria office, made the call in his office when he received the NUJ Zaria Unit executive members on a courtesy call.
He emphasized that the media is a very important organization that will assist them in discharging their duties effectively and bringing down drug abuse to the barest minimum.
Asst. Commander Shi'aibu maintained that without the media, nothing can be successful because nobody will know what is happening around the community and the state.
He assured the journalists that the long-standing working relationship between them will be more active than before since they need each other's services.
He also appealed to community leaders, traditional leaders, and other stakeholders to support them and give them maximum cooperation by providing credible information about where drug demand and consumption are taking place, to address the situation immediately.
Shi'aibu stated that his unit is saddled with the responsibility of reducing drug demand, but they are not involved in arresting or conducting stop-and-search operations.
Earlier in his remarks, the Vice Chairman of the NUJ Zaria Unit, Comrade Sani Aliyu, who led the executive members, reminded the Commander that journalists have had a long history of collaboration with the NDLEA in the state before moving the state headquarters to Kaduna from Zaria.
Comrade Aliyu assured the Commander of the journalists' full support and cooperation and urged for mutual cooperation whenever the need arises.
