The Unity Torch for the Gateway Games 2025 has arrived Kaduna Wednesday, 23rd April 2025, signaling the upcoming National Sports Festival slated to be held in Ogun State this May.
With the clock ticking towards the commencement of the prestigious bi-ennial sporting event, the arrival of the symbolic flame underscores Kaduna State's readiness to compete and its commitment to fostering sports development.
Receiving the delegation carrying the torch on behalf of Governor Uba Sani, Commissioner for Sports Development, Prof. Benjamin Kumai Gugong, who welcomed the torch, assured that Team Kaduna will not only be participating, but fully prepared to make a strong impact at the festival.
"Kaduna is not only ready to participate, but we are determined to perform well and return with several medals from the Festival in Ogun," he declared, highlighting the state's ambition for success in the Gateway Games.
Furthermore, the Commissioner stressed Kaduna state's strong relationships with the National Sports Commission, aiming to elevate the standard of sports within the state and ensure a lasting legacy beyond the festival.
This collaboration, he noted, is crucial for nurturing local talents and providing opportunities for athletes to excel on a national stage.
The leader of the delegation, Mrs. Ikana Bora, described the Unity Torch as a powerful emblem of unity and peace.
She underscored its vital role in engaging the youth and strengthening the bonds of national cohesion across Nigeria as the nation gears up for this significant sporting spectacle.
Mrs. Ikana also noted that the North West zone torch of unity relay was concluded in Kaduna, and the next leg of its journey is set to ignite enthusiasm in the South East zone.
Athletes across the nation are now in the final stages of preparation, fueled by the symbolic journey of the torch towards the grand opening in Ogun State.
