Kaduna, Nigeria – A new organization, the Arewa Cohesion for Peace, Unity, and Development Initiative, has been launched with the goal of promoting dialogue, reconciliation, and sustainable development across Northern Nigeria. The group aims to address the region’s challenges and reshape its developmental trajectory through collaborative efforts.
The grand unveiling took place at Arewa House in Kaduna, where the organization’s logo, emblem, and leadership team were presented to the public. The event brought together stakeholders committed to fostering unity and progress in the ethnically and religiously diverse region.
In his keynote address, Alhaji Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, described the launch as the beginning of a critical journey toward healing divisions and strengthening understanding among Northern communities.
“This initiative is not a political movement,” Bafarawa clarified. “However, we are open to working with all stakeholders—regardless of political affiliation—who share our commitment to transforming the North and Nigeria for the better.”
He further revealed that the organization has developed a comprehensive blueprint for the region’s advancement and will support political leaders and groups that align with its vision of inclusive development.
The initiative seeks partnerships with like-minded organizations to tackle governance challenges, promote peaceful coexistence, and encourage equitable leadership recruitment processes.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the occasion, Captain Jonathan Temalong (Rtd), emphasized the organization’s dedication to reshaping the North’s narrative.
“This initiative is driven by an unwavering commitment to peace and prosperity,” Temalong said. “We envision a Northern Nigeria that is not defined by its challenges but by its resilience and ability to overcome them.”
The Arewa Cohesion for Peace, Unity, and Development Initiative has outlined key objectives, including promoting good governance and accountability in leadership, encouraging inclusive representation in political and economic structures, strengthening inter-community dialogue to foster harmony, and advancing sustainable development programs to improve livelihoods.
With its launch, the organization has set the stage for a renewed push toward a peaceful, united, and prosperous Northern Nigeria. Stakeholders hope its efforts will contribute to lasting stability and growth in the region.
