The Plateau Progressive Movement (PPM) has called for an urgent investigation into Senator Shehu Umar Buba, Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, following widespread public concern over his alleged conduct in relation to national security matters.
In a statement jointly signed by Comrade Dachum Daniel Kajang, Publicity Secretary of the PPM, and Comrade Sabo Muhammad, the group emphasized its commitment to justice and the rule of law, urging authorities to act swiftly in response to what it described as “serious allegations” against the senator.
While the PPM refrained from asserting guilt, it cited reports and community testimonies that have raised ethical and legal questions about Senator Buba’s associations and activities.
Among the concerns are claims of interactions with armed groups and the alleged facilitation of logistics that may compromise public safety. A video clip circulating online, purportedly showing the movement of arms and motorcycles from the senator’s residence to Zamfara State, has further intensified scrutiny.
“The integrity of our institutions depends on transparency and accountability,” the statement read. “We believe that the seriousness of these allegations warrants immediate attention.”
The group called on the Senate to consider relieving Senator Buba of his chairmanship pending the outcome of a full investigation, arguing that such a move would help restore public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
PPM also urged law enforcement agencies to conduct a comprehensive inquiry, stressing the importance of due process and the need for leaders to be held to the highest standards of ethical conduct.
“The people of Plateau State—and Nigeria at large—deserve clarity, integrity, and action in the face of uncertainty,” the statement concluded.
Reacting to the allegations, the Special Adviser on Media and Communications to Senator Shehu Buba has dismissed recent allegations against the lawmaker as a smear campaign orchestrated by disgruntled elements threatened by his rising political profile.
He described the claims as baseless, malicious, and lacking understanding of the security efforts in Bauchi State.
He challenged the accusers to provide verifiable details, such as names of alleged victims and hospitals involved, to support their claims.
The adviser also emphasized that areas like Toro and Tafawa Balewa enjoy relative peace, and any insecurity in the neighboring Plateau State should not be linked to the senator.
