Abuja, Nigeria - The Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA) has announced its New Year Honours list, with seven outstanding players from across the continent receiving top accolades for their exceptional performances between December 1, 2024, and November 30, 2025.

The honours, confirmed by the PANASA Technical Committee, recognize the remarkable achievements of African Scrabble players who have made significant contributions to the sport.

Nigeria's Scrabble stars shone bright, with five players receiving honours. Archibong and Sophia Ekeruche were awarded Junior Continental Champion (JCC) badges for their outstanding performances in the Under-15 and Under-19 categories. Tega Okiemute and George Ezinore were awarded Grand Master (GM) badges, while David Ojih, Adebola "Dunsin" Samuel, and Lukeman Owolabi received Expert (EXP) badges.

The 2025 season was a breakthrough year for African Scrabble, with Nigeria's Abdulqudus Aliu finishing second in the world at the World Youth Scrabble Championships in Malaysia. Sophia Ekeruche also claimed the Best Female Player award, while Africa hosted the world at WESPAC Ghana 2025, widely praised as the best edition of the championship.
