NAWOJ Kaduna Felicitates Govt on Democracy Day, Reaffirms Commitment to Press Freedom

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, Kaduna State Chapter, has felicitated with the Kaduna State Government and Nigerians on the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.

In a statement signed by the Chairperson, Sahura Jibril Maidoki, NAWOJ Kaduna said the day serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by Nigerians who fought for civil rule, press freedom, and accountable governance

The association noted that the occasion is also an opportunity to reflect on progress made and the work still required to strengthen democratic institutions, uphold the rule of law, and protect fundamental human rights.

“As journalists and custodians of public trust, the NAWOJ Kaduna Chapter reaffirms its commitment to responsible, factual, and unbiased reporting,” the statement said. “We believe a free and independent press remains the bedrock of any thriving democracy.”

The association pledged to continue holding power to account, amplifying citizens’ voices, and promoting national unity through ethical journalism.

NAWOJ Kaduna also commended the state government for its efforts in promoting good governance. It called on all stakeholders to deepen citizen engagement, protect press freedom, and create an enabling environment for journalists to work without intimidation.

The chapter urged Nigerians to renew their faith in democracy and participate actively in civic processes to advance peace, security, and inclusive development across Kaduna State and the nation.
