Top officers of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) have rated Kwara State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq high following the state performance at the recently concluded 2023 National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.

Kwara state finished a record fifth position after recording 13 gold, 14 silver, and 9 bronze at the 7th National Youth Games.

The National Vice President of North Central SWAN, Olayinka Owolewa, and Chairman of Kwara SWAN, Mallam Ayodeji Ismail observed at the State Football Association office in Ilorin on Friday.

According to them, the performance of Team Kwara was a result of targeted investments by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq in the last five years of office.

Mallam Ayodeji Ismail said the state contingents were properly funded and the Governor Abdulrazaq carefully tailored sports policy and implementation.

He said, Kwara's contingent was among the youngest at the National Youth Games. Going by the stiff competition at the Games, the athletes could still hold their own.

"We must also not forget the role of Kwara State Sports Commission, who were painstaking in policy implementation, and the provision of adequate backup that saw to the athletes' successful campaign," he said.

Adding another perspective, Owolewa, Vice President, North Central, SWAN, said that the state gave a good account of itself to the pride of the North Central region at the Asaba games.

"Kwara again demonstrated its long-standing superiority in sports as far as the entire North is concerned".
