AYCF Fault Calls For Street Protests Seeking INEC Chair Resignation

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has firmly rejected the calls for the resignation of Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), made by the United Nigerians in the Diaspora (UND) through street protests.

According to Alhaji Yerima Shettima, the AYCF's National President, these demands are baseless and part of a deliberate attempt to distract INEC from its commendable efforts in managing the electoral process before and after the presidential and National Assembly polls.

Shettima emphasized that while INEC is not infallible, it has made significant strides, including successful implementation of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) in 90% of cases during the 2023 elections.

He also highlighted that the recent presidential election was one of the most free and fair since 1999, with both major candidates experiencing losses in their respective strongholds.

The AYCF stands against any forces seeking to undermine Nigeria's democratic process and urges support for INEC's efforts to uphold electoral integrity.

The AYCF also expresses concern about certain individuals in the Diaspora using foreign platforms to spread hate and discontent against Nigeria.

While the UK and the US have laws prohibiting hate speech and incitement of violence, the lack of action against UND's threats surprises many. As a sovereign nation, Nigeria maintains friendly relationships with international partners, but actions like those of UND are seen as unpatriotic and detrimental to peace and unity within the country.
