With only five days remaining until the commencement of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Sports Minister, Senator John Owan Enoh, has expressed his optimism that Team Nigeria will surpass its previous best performance at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
Nigeria's contingent, comprising 88 athletes across 12 sports, has been preparing intensively, with notable athletes like Oluwatobiloba Amusan, Ese Brume, and Blessing Oborodudu, among others, ready to make their mark on the global stage.
Senator Enoh has urged Nigerians to rally behind the team, stating, "Our athletes have shown tremendous dedication, and with the support of every Nigerian, we are confident they will excel and make the nation proud."
The minister has prioritized athletes' welfare, increasing bonuses and allowances, and ensuring the entire ₦100 million contributed by the Federal House of Representatives goes directly to the athletes.
Nigeria's campaign at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics will run from July 26 to August 11, with high hopes for a successful outing.
"Let's unite in support of our athletes as they embark on this remarkable journey," Senator Enoh concluded. "Our aspiration is not just to participate but to excel and bring home the medals."
