The Kaduna State Ministry of Information and Culture has entered into a strategic partnership with the State Bureau of Statistics (BoS) to organize specialized training for journalists on accurate and data-driven reporting.
The initiative seeks to bridge the gap between complex government statistics and public understanding, thereby promoting transparency, accountability, and greater citizen participation in governance.
The partnership was formalized on Tuesday when the State Statistician-General, Dr. Bukar Baba Alhaji, paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, in Kaduna.
Dr. Bukar described the collaboration as timely and essential for strengthening public awareness of the role of credible data in effective planning, evidence-based policymaking, and sustainable development.
“How can we secure wider coverage of our activities for citizens to appreciate our contributions to development?” Dr. Bukar asked, emphasizing the importance of media partnership in communicating the Bureau’s work.
In his response, the Honourable Commissioner commended the initiative and reaffirmed the Ministry’s full commitment to supporting the Bureau’s objectives.
He noted that data-driven governance remains central to Kaduna State’s development agenda and pledged sustained collaboration to ensure accuracy, credibility, and accessibility of information.
The forthcoming statistics awareness retreat for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and Data Journalism training for journalists will build the capacity of participants with practical skills to interpret and present statistical data in clear, compelling, and audience-friendly formats — strengthening the link between data and public understanding.
