The
Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has issued a strong condemnation of the abduction of 25 schoolgirls from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, labeling the attack a "grave assault on humanity."

The National President of the NUT, Comrade Audu Titus Amba, expressed the union's outrage in an interview on Tuesday, following a solidarity visit to Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, led by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Comrade Joe Ajaero.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, November 17, 2025, saw armed assailants storm the school, kidnapping the students and killing the vice principal and a security guard who were on duty.

Comrade Amba, described as the number one teacher in the country, stated that the attack was "highly saddening, horrifying, and a setback to the growing education sector in the north." He extended the NUT's deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and the abducted.

“We strongly condemn this heinous act of violence,” Amba declared.

The union leader called on the Nigerian government to "take immediate and swift action to ensure the safe release of the abducted girls and bring the perpetrators to justice." He emphasized that attacks on schools must be met with zero tolerance.

The NUT urged authorities to strengthen security perimeters around educational institutions and intensify broader efforts to curb the rampant killings, kidnappings, and banditry plaguing the nation.

Amba expressed the union's solidarity with the affected families and Governor Idris, appealing to the international community to support Nigeria's efforts to safeguard education and prevent future atrocities.

The statement also encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to security agencies, stressing that "every life is important and must be protected." The attack has reignited national concerns over the safety of schools, particularly in northern Nigeria.
