Speaking with reporters, the father of the deceased, Comrade Musa Mohammed, popularly known as Moonlight, said assurances given by authorities after the incident were not fulfilled, leaving the family devastated and disillusioned.
Ahmed Musa, a student of Government Technical College, Malali, Kaduna, was reportedly brutally killed on February 16, 2025, allegedly by fellow students of the school. One year after the incident, the family says no meaningful justice has been served.
Mohammed, a senior journalist, lamented that both the school authorities and the state government have shown little concern despite the gravity of the incident and the trauma suffered by the family.
He warned that what he described as the “lukewarm attitude” of the authorities could have serious implications for student safety across the state’s schools.
“The government’s response and the inaction of the school authorities pose a serious danger to the future of our children,” he said. “It gives the impression that students can commit unlawful acts within school premises and go scot-free without punishment.”
He further alleged that the prime suspects in the case were released without the family’s consent, a development he described as deeply distressing and unacceptable.
“As at today, to our surprise, the prime suspects were released without our consent. This is an act that should be condemned by all well-meaning individuals, especially those in positions of authority,” Mohammed stated.
The family has announced that the planned protest will take place on February 16, 2026, to mark the first anniversary of Ahmed Musa’s death.
Mohammed said the protest is aimed at drawing public attention to their demand for justice and accountability.
“Losing a child is one of the most painful experiences anyone can go through, and it is even more heartbreaking when it is compounded by injustice,” he said. “The pain and grief are still raw, and our anger and frustration stem from the belief that justice has not been served.”
He called on the Kaduna State Government and security agencies to revisit the case and ensure that those responsible for the killing of his son are brought to justice.
