Victims of Alhuda Huda Demolition Receive Compensation After 11 Years

Victims of the 2015 demolition exercise carried out around Alhuda Huda College in Zaria have begun receiving compensation following the intervention of the Kaduna State Government under Governor Uba Sani.

The development comes barely a day after the state government approved compensation for affected farmers in Giwa Local Government Area, marking another step in its efforts to address longstanding grievances across the state.

The houses, located behind Alhuda Huda College, were demolished by the previous administration without compensation being paid to the affected residents. The exercise reportedly resulted in severe economic hardship for many families, while some residents also lost their lives in the aftermath of the demolition.

In response to years of appeals by the affected persons, the Kaduna State Government approved measures aimed at compensating the victims and restoring their livelihoods.

To implement the decision, the Director-General of the Kaduna Geographic Information Service (KADGIS), Dr. Bashir Garba Ibrahim, led a management team to Zaria on Wednesday, where offer letters for new residential plots were formally presented to beneficiaries.

The government said the plots were allocated to the affected residents at zero premium as part of efforts to provide relief and ensure justice for those impacted by the demolition.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Dr. Ibrahim reiterated the administration's commitment to justice, fairness and responsible governance, noting that the government remains determined to address legitimate concerns of citizens across the state.

The event was attended by the member representing Zaria Constituency in the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Mahmud Lawal Ismail, who was commended for his role in facilitating the resolution of the matter.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to Governor Uba Sani for what they described as his compassionate and responsive leadership, saying the compensation had restored hope to families who had endured years of hardship.

They pledged continued support for the administration's efforts to promote justice and inclusive development across Kaduna State.
