A book documenting the rich history, achievements, and contributions of Radio Nigeria Kaduna to broadcasting and national development has been launched in Kaduna.
The book, titled "Rediyo Nigeria Kaduna: Abin Alfarin 'Yan Arewa" (Radio Nigeria Kaduna: A Pride of Northerners), was unveiled at a ceremony held at Arewa House, Kaduna. It was authored by a former staff of the station and current Deputy Registrar of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Alhaji Garba Abdulkarim Kumo.
The event attracted serving and former staff of Radio Nigeria Kaduna, media professionals, academics, and other dignitaries from across the region.
Speaking at the occasion, Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, represented by the Executive Secretary of the Kaduna State Scholarship and Loans Board, Professor Yahaya Saleh, commended the author for preserving an important aspect of Northern Nigeria's history.
He described the publication as a valuable contribution to documenting the role of Radio Nigeria Kaduna in promoting education, unity, and public enlightenment through its knowledge-driven programmes over the years.
The Chief Launcher of the book, APC governorship candidate in Gombe State, Alhaji Jamilu Isiyaku Gwamna, represented by Barrister Isiyaku Ahmed Dan Lawan, praised the author for chronicling the achievements of one of the foremost institutions established by the late Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto.
He stressed the need for Northern leaders to develop strategies to preserve Radio Nigeria Kaduna and other institutions established by the Sardauna, noting that they remain vital symbols of the region's cultural identity, unity, and heritage.
In an interview, the Zonal Director of Radio Nigeria Kaduna, Alhaji Lawal Ali Garba, conveyed the appreciation of the management of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) to the author for the publication.
According to him, the book highlights some of the station's landmark programmes, outstanding reporters, producers, and presenters whose contributions helped establish Radio Nigeria Kaduna as one of the leading broadcasting institutions in sub-Saharan Africa.
Also speaking, the author, Alhaji Garba Abdulkarim Kumo, underscored the importance of preserving institutions founded by the late Sardauna of Sokoto. He expressed concern over the decline and collapse of some of such institutions, while others continue to struggle for survival.
Other speakers at the event echoed similar sentiments, calling for renewed commitment to sustaining institutions that have played significant roles in the socio-cultural and educational development of Northern Nigeria.
