The Zamfara State Government has donated N5 million to the Association of Zamfara State Indigenes Residing in Kaduna State to support its welfare programmes and humanitarian interventions for members displaced by banditry and other security challenges.
The donation was announced during the official unveiling of the association's newly acquired secretariat in Kaduna, the launch of its reviewed constitution, and the distribution of food items to vulnerable members.
Governor Dauda Lawal, represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr. Mukhtar Lugga, said the financial support would enable the association to strengthen its statutory responsibilities and expand its humanitarian services to members, many of whom were forced to relocate from Zamfara due to persistent bandit attacks and kidnappings.
The governor reaffirmed his administration's commitment to tackling insecurity, stressing that the state government would continue to provide the necessary logistical support to security agencies to sustain ongoing military operations against criminal elements.
He maintained that the government would not negotiate with bandits but would remain resolute in supporting efforts to eliminate all forms of banditry and criminality across the state.
Speaking with journalists, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Dr. Abdulrahman Tumbido, said restoring peace and security remains one of the administration's top priorities, noting that insecurity had forced thousands of Zamfara indigenes to seek refuge in neighbouring Kaduna State.
He added that the Governor Dauda Lawal administration is also implementing policies aimed at revitalising the state's economy by attracting both local and foreign investors to its abundant mineral resources, particularly gold and lithium.
According to the commissioner, the recent commissioning of the state's cargo airport is expected to stimulate business activities, enhance investment opportunities and drive economic growth.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Association of Zamfara State Indigenes Residing in Kaduna State, Alhaji Balarabe Garba, said the inauguration of the new secretariat was accompanied by the distribution of relief materials to about 280 vulnerable members.
He said each beneficiary received a 10-kilogramme bag of rice and other assorted food items as part of the association's humanitarian outreach.
Garba disclosed that available records from the association indicate that about 6,000 Zamfara indigenes currently reside in Kaduna State after being displaced by insecurity in their communities.
