Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has commended the leadership of the National President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Audu Titus Amba, describing it as people-driven and worthy of recognition.
The Governor, represented by his running mate in the 2027 governorship election, Comrade Jerry Adams, gave the commendation at the 8th Quadrennial National Conference of the NUT held at the International Conference Centre, Enugu.
Senator Uba Sani praised Amba's prudent and dynamic leadership style, noting that his contributions to the union had continued to make Kaduna State proud within the national and international community.
He also expressed appreciation to Nigerian teachers for reposing confidence in what he described as an illustrious son of Kaduna State, while expressing optimism about Amba's capacity to take the union to greater heights.
In separate remarks, the Governors of Enugu and Kebbi States, Mr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah and Dr. Nasir Idris, respectively, underscored the importance of teachers in national development and called for greater attention to their welfare and professional needs.
The conference, which attracted over 5,000 delegates, education administrators and dignitaries from within and outside Nigeria, was held under the theme: "The Deployment of Technology and Artificial Intelligence in Education: Will it Erode the Place of Teachers in the Classroom – A Myth or Reality?"
At the conference, Comrade Audu Titus Amba was re-elected National President of the NUT for a second four-year term.
In his acceptance speech, Amba described his re-election as a renewed call to greater responsibility, pledging to prioritise improved teachers' welfare, professionalism and quality education during his second tenure.
He assured teachers across the country of his commitment to protecting their welfare, dignity and professional interests, stressing that no teacher should feel undervalued or disrespected while providing an essential national service.
According to him, a motivated and respected teaching workforce remains fundamental to achieving meaningful reforms in the education sector.
Amba thanked teachers nationwide for the confidence reposed in him and promised an open-door, transparent and inclusive leadership approach.
He also pledged to strengthen collaboration with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and other labour organisations in the pursuit of a new living minimum wage for workers, emphasising that teachers' welfare would remain central to the union's engagements with governments at all levels.
The NUT President further called on the Federal Government to urgently tackle insecurity around schools to guarantee the safety of teachers and learners, maintaining that meaningful teaching and learning cannot thrive in an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty.
He noted that although teachers were willing to embrace changing realities in the profession, governments at all levels must fulfil their responsibilities by providing the necessary support and resources to improve teaching and learning.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has urged teachers across the country to embrace digital technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance their effectiveness and improve educational delivery.
The Minister, represented by the Registrar of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Dr. Ronke Soyombo, made the call while declaring open the NUT conference in Enugu.
Dr. Alausa said the adoption of digital skills and emerging technologies was consistent with the Federal Government's ongoing efforts to transform the education sector.
He urged teachers to regard technology not as a threat to their relevance but as a tool for improving classroom engagement and learning outcomes, stressing that the future of teaching would increasingly depend on the ability of educators to embrace innovation.
