Rumfa College and Ahmadiyya College have emerged winners of this year’s Kano State finals of the Nestlé Milo Inter-Secondary Schools Basketball Championship.
The state final, which attracted over 110 secondary schools, took place at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Sani Abacha Sports Complex in Kano.
With the victory, both teams will represent Kano State at the Savannah Conference zonal championship, where twelve states will compete for places in the national finals scheduled to hold in Lagos.
A total of 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory are expected to compete in four conferences to be hosted in Kano, Asaba, Ibadan, and Abuja, while the national finals will take place in Lagos.
In the boys’ category, Rumfa College defeated Ahmadiyya College 36–8 points (5-4, 10-0, 10-0, 11-8). In the girls’ category, Ahmadiyya College whitewashed Army Day Secondary School Bukavu 39–10 points (7-2, 6-4, 7-4, 19-0) in an impressive encounter.
Speaking shortly after the finals, the coach of Rumfa College, Umar Muhammad Bala Gandu, and his Ahmadiyya counterpart, Abubakar Rabilu Ammani, applauded the performance of their players and urged them to sustain the momentum ahead of the Savannah Conference scheduled for May 6–13, 2026 in Kano.
In separate remarks, the representative of the Nigeria School Sports Federation, Rabiu Abdu Boss, and the Head of School Sports, Kano State Ministry of Education, Kabiru Shehu, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the tournament.
Malam Kabiru Shehu disclosed that the School Sports Section of the ministry has concluded plans to hold a meeting with the winning teams’ head coaches to ensure adequate preparation for the Savannah Conference and the national finals later in the year.
They commended the Kano State Government, the Nigeria School Sports Federation, and sponsors Nestlé Milo for their commitment to the development of basketball at the grassroots level across the country.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of trophies to the winners, Rumfa and Ahmadiyya Colleges, by the NSSF representative, Rabiu Abdu Boss.
